I first made these raw chocolate chewy bars for my kids as I wanted to get some goodness into their sweet treats.
They don’t usually eat nuts so disguising cashew nuts and almonds into a chewy bar laced with cacao powder was my smug way of ensuring they had a delicious treat high in protein and good fats. And would you believe it, it worked, with sweets taking second place when these gems are on offer.
What do raw chocolate chewy bars taste like?
They are super sweet with a rich, deep chocolate flavour from the cacao. They have a soft chewy consistency that you might see advertised in some sexy chocolate bar advert. Yes, they are that good! These bars come with a warning mind. They are dangerously moreish and I often find myself yo-yoing back and forth from chair to freezer for another fix.
If you are looking to lose weight bear in mind that the ingredients are high in calories but everything in moderation is fine.
Good for you
Great for bone health and strength as well as alleviating constipation. Dates are a great source of vitamins and minerals including calcium and iron. They are a good source of energy and fibre to but are high in sugar.
Great for keeping your connective tissues strong, eg tissues that include tendons, skin, ligaments, teeth and bones. The copper in coconut also maintains the health of your brain.
It is also high in iron and fibre.
Good source of protein, vitamin E, copper and magnesium. They are also considered (along with other nuts and seeds) to be good for your heart.
This recipe makes around 12 small servings but they are usually gobbled up really fast so make double the quantity if you like. And why not, they are stored in the freezer and can last for weeks. That NEVER happens!
Making double means I get to roll them around in cacao and make extra delicious little balls.
